Vintage Hand-Painted Religious Ex Voto on Metal 1870 “Saintly Boy of Atocha” 323

$75.00Price

An ex voto, similar in many respects to a painted retablo, is a devotional object or painting left in a sacred place to give thanks for a miracle, answered prayer, or survival.  It often depicts whatever event occurred and features the saint, angel or deity being thanked.

This vintage hand-painted ex voto (retablo of thanks) measures 6 ¾” in height, 9 ½” in width.  It features a story about a man who cheated at cards and didn’t get caught (see the story in Spanish on the front and translated into English on the back) and the thanks go to the Saintly Boy of Atocha.

This particular piece was hand-painted on reused metal and is a reproduction of one crafted in 1870 by Basilio Atanasio Gonzalez and appears on a church wall.

It is ready to sit in an easel or plate stand or can be hung on a wall with the addition of a picture hanger.
