Vintage Cuzco Peruvian Religious Wall Retablo Tableau of Our Lady of Guadalupe 3

A remarkable 3 ½” tall vintage Peruvian wall altar or retablo of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Two dimensional with a recessed image of Our Lady of Guadalupe/Virgin Mary, it was hand-crafted from stone resin. The figures are hand-painted and the medallion features an ornate frame with gold leaf.

This traditional depiction of our Lady of Guadalupe is more common in Mexico than Peru but, following Spanish Colonization, the Cuzco School of Art began including a more traditional version of Guadalupe in their icons. It was traditional to hang an image of her on a wall or above a doorway as a mini altar.

Ready to hang, it has a pierced hole at the top and would also make a spectacular oversized tree ornament.
